Melitta “Millie” Kukurich died Tuesday, October 1, 2024, in Lawton, Oklahoma at the age of 95.  She was born May 25, 1929, in Offenbach, Germany to Johnn and Margarita Helferich.  She grew up in Germany where she studied to be a nurse.

She married SFC (Retired) Jacob John Kukurich on March 11, 1962 in Aschaffenburg, Germany.  He preceded her in death on August 23, 2006.  Millie followed her husband in his military career, finally making Lawton their home.

Millie was a devoted member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church and an active participant in the Military Widows’ Society. She also had a deep connection to her heritage, serving as a member of the German American Club and proudly helping to establish Lawton’s Oktoberfest celebration.

Above all, Millie cherished her family, especially her grandchildren, who, together with everyone who knew her, lovingly called her “Oma.”

She is survived by her daughter, Brigitte Lehew; seven grandchildren, Melinda Kukurich-Grady, Johnathan Brenner, Misty Brenner, Crystal Eisner, Aaron Lehew, Jason Eisner and Nathan Lehew; great-grandchildren, Korie, Colton, Cody, Braden, Zane, Nicholas, David, Carl, Kendrell, Destiney, LaTaurence, Nico, Phoebe and Corbin; and great great grandchildren, Kaiden, Isabella, and Zaiven.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a daughter, Rosemary Smith, son-in-law, Dale Lehew, and a brother, Roland Helferich.
