Grace Lane celebrated her 100th birthday on Oct. 27. She was Duncan’s first female police officer. She was born on a farm between Duncan and Meridian.
She lived in Duncan for 61 years. She attributes her longevity to her good health, family, and faith. “My life has been pretty well-rounded and fulfilling,” Grace said.
Les Calger, a retired Duncan police officer, presented Grace with the Fraternal Order of Police Award. Lane began her career in 1960 in the Juvenile Dept.
“I just wanted to help younger children who had gotten into trouble or were homeless,” Grace said. She served for 25 years and retired on July 10, 1985.
