GOP Seeks Chili Cooks

Fall is here and cooler temperatures are on the way, and with cooler temperatures, there is nothing better on a fall evening than a bowl of steaming hot chili.
The Stephens County Republican Party’s 20th Annual Chili Cookoff and Family Fun Night is set for the last Saturday in October, right before Halloween.,
“We are looking for thirty or more folks that would want to participate in one of the largest events in the area,” said GOP Chairman Leon Farris. “And that is the Chili Cookoff that will be held at the Stephens County Fairgrounds main exhibit building on October 26.”
The event has grown and more activities have been added since the first one in 1984, said party officials.
“We have had as many as 600 show up for this event,” said Farris. “and we make it a fun night.”
A live band performs in one room, there is karaoke playing in another, a big screen TV with football and a kids carnival room. A professional clown, a magician and a caraicature artist adds to the entertainment.
Farris said that there are 2 categories, one is for elected political officials and potential candidates and one for supporters who might just be business owners wanting a fun way to meet the public and promote their products and services. There are also non profit organizations who can participate as well. Anyone interested in being involved should contact Farris for more details and to sign up for a booth space.
Each chili cook prepares at least three gallons of chili, decorates a booth, and serves samples of chili to those in attendance. Then celebrity judges sample the chilis and pick favorites for each category and also judge the booths.. The people’s choice award allows those in attendance get a say in who has the best fare.
Mark your calendar for Saturday, October 26. Call Farris for more information regarding being a chili booth sponsor. He can be reached at 580-656-7951.
