Marlow High School Drama Dept. will present “Curse of the Mummy’s Tomb” at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, at the First Baptist Church.
The production will be the 43rd and final year for Drama instructor Paula McConnell is is my 43rd. To honor her and her last Advanced Drama play production, admission to the show will be free.
“Curse of the Mummy’s Tomb” is a comedy by Craig Sodako. Archaeologist Tommy Tweedum (Trace Ribble) gets a lot more excitement than he bargained for when he unearths the tomb of King Rottentot. His nasty nephew Neville (Conner Murrah) and Neville’s wife, Nelda (Addison McClennen), have been lying in wait to cash in by inheriting all the treasures in the tomb. They pay a shady soothsayer (Bug Dixon) to announce a curse. That way when Tweedum, his daughter Tillie (Hayden Pereira), and his partner Della (Bianca Pineda-Kinsey) turn up dead, the mummy can take the blame. But they don’t count on Tillie’s beau, Willy Wright (Jackson Witt), his mother Mrs. Wright (Spencer Fincher), or government agent Mr. Calisse (Michael Weston) showing up. The site also includes other characters played by Averie Holley, Jael Morton, Malachi Swan, Courtney Jennings, and Caleb Slaughter.
The production, of course, takes more than the 14 actors seen on stage. Stagecraft took on the challenge of designing and building scenery, including crates, tents, and archaeological treasures, that can be taken “on the road.” The team includes Ella Beesley, Colton Bratcher, Gray Davis, Nox Fincher, Billy Gaskins, Kahlyn Gunn, Arianna McClennen, Abby Miller, Estrella Molina, Scarlett Phillips, Emily Rhoades, Jeffrey Standridge, and Malachi Swan.
