Eight Duncan teachers were determined to be outstanding in their schools, and soon, one will be chosen as the Duncan Public Schools teacher of the year.
This past week, each of the Duncan elementary schools, the pre-k center, the middle school and the high school announced their teachers of the year. Each of the teachers were selected by the certified staff members in their school buildings.
These teachers will participate in the annual teacher of the year ceremony, where one will be given the title of Duncan Public Schools teacher of the year and will join the ranks of some of Duncan’s most prestigious teachers, including last year’s teacher of the year Shannon Rose, who teaches seventh-grade resource at Duncan Middle School.
This year’s site teachers of the year include Eme Sanders of Will Rogers Pre-K, Ginger Thornton of Emerson Elementary, Lara McPherson of Horace Mann Elementary, Angelia Warren of Mark Twain Elementary, Amara Burton of Plato Elementary, Kimi Hays of Woodrow Wilson Elementary, Rosie Castle of Duncan Middle School and Toni Howard of Duncan High School.
Each of the teachers were recognized with visits from Superintendent Channa Byerly and Assistant Superintendent Kim Ellis, both of whom helped to let the teachers know they earned one of the top teacher honors in their respective buildings.
