The Stephens County Historical Museum’s new director Keith Colley has established a new exhibit regarding the county’s connection to baseball.
On January 25, the exhibit featured Roy “Peaches” Davis, the former Cincinnati Reds pitcher from 1936-1939, at the Museum. He was a resident of Duncan.
Davis’s family has graciously donated items for the exhibit, which include personal items that tell Davis’s story.
Colley, the museum’s executive director, said, “We are finding people of all ages are drawn to the exhibit.”
Those are who work at the museum hope that the exhibit will keep Davis’s stories and memories alive.
Also the museum has captured the history of The Halliburton Cementers Baseball Club that was founded in Duncan and participated in Semi-Pro Sandlot style games during the late 1920s and ending in the 1940s. The team was comprised of local Halliburton employees who were often scouted and employed because of their specific baseball skills. Roy “Peaches” Davis, a player for the Halliburton Cementers, went on to play for the major league team The Cincinnati Reds.
For those wanting to learn more about Davis and other local notables of the past, the museum is open from 1-5 p.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
