DUNCAN, OK, — Main Street Duncan announced “with great regret” this week that the March 21 Friday Night Car Cruise has been cancelled. Executive Director Brandi Johnson said because of significant increases in insurance coverage costs — driven in part by recent tragic events in New Orleans and other locations — insurance providers are pricing this type of event’s coverage out of viability.
As a result, it is now financially unfeasible to continue hosting this beloved event. Johnson said the decision was not made lightly, as Main Street Duncan understands the importance of the event to the community.
“We are truly saddened by this development. The Friday Night Car Cruise, held several times yearly, has always been a highlight of our programming as well as a fundraiser for our facade improvement grants, but the escalating insurance costs have made it impossible to move forward this year,” Johnson said. “We want to thank all of our participants, sponsors, and attendees for their continued support. We hope to find ways to host a fall cruise, should circumstances and finances, in the form of sponsorship, allow.”
While the March 21 event is cancelled, Main Street Duncan is excited to invite car enthusiasts to its other upcoming events. The Motors & Music Cruise In and Cruisin’ the Chisholm Trail Car & Motorcycle Show in April, will be great opportunities to come together and celebrate the vibrant car culture of Southwest Oklahoma.
Main Street Duncan is a 501(c)3 charity and all donations are fully tax-deductible to the extent of federal and state tax laws; the program has been affiliated with the Oklahoma Main Street Center and nationally accredited through Main Street America.
