Duncan Mayor’s Breakfast well attended

by Wayne Watts, CTCN Editor

Hundreds gathered at the Simmons Center in Duncan on Thursday morning to share a breakfast and pray for their community.
The Duncan Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast is an annual tradition hosted by the Duncan Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by several Duncan Businesses and Organizations.
Following a hearty breakfast buffet, Kelly Arnold, recently hired as the President and CEO of the Chamber, welcomed everyone to the event and turned the podium over to District Attorney Jason Hicks who served as Master of Ceremonies.
Duncan Mayor Robert Armstrong provided a greeting and then prayers were offered by different individuals of the community for issues such as those greiving, a prayer for the lost in the community, for community children, families, and for the community as a whole. Janice Schornick gave a moving talk entitled “Whose I Am” that received much applause from those in attendance.
The prayers were interspersed with musical renditions from Valerie Geason and Band. Geason is a former back up singer for Ray Charles and now resides in California.
Keynote speaker for the event was Donovan Woods. Donovan is currently the Director of Development for the Oklahoma State University Foundation focusing efforts on OSU-OKC and the Division of Access and Community Impact. He is a proud alum of Millwood High School winning multiple state championships and Oklahoma State University where he majored in Business Marketing. While at OSU, Donovan played football and was a 4-year starter at 3 different positions (Quarterback, Safety, Linebacker). He went on to play professional football spending time with the Buffalo Bills, Dallas Cowboys, and Pittsburgh Steelers winning a Super Bowl in 2008.
The event concluded with a special prayer over elected officials, law enforcement and teachers in the community.
